Which Golf Clubs are the most Important? 10 Tips

Golf is a game with many complicated rules, but there is one rule that is quite simple and clear. A golfer is allowed to carry a maximum of 14 golf clubs in a golf bag. However, when you play golf for a while, you will realize that there is no need to bring all the 14 clubs to the golf course with you. All you need are the most important clubs for you, and you will be good to go. Here are 10 tips by RunRex you can reference to know which golf clubs are the most important and which you should bring along with you to the golf course.

1.    The driver

Having a good driver and hitting a good drive improves your offense game. A good driver will land the ball at a point on the fairway that is easy to attack the hole. When choosing a driver out of the 3 available to choose from, get one that will get the ball off the tee and land it in the right position. The better the position that ball lands the more effective your attack will be.

2.    The Putter

As you start to fill the 14 available spaces in your golf bag, a putter is one of the first easy options to choose. The putter comes in very handy when getting the ball into the hole. Unless you putt, hitting close irons doesn’t amount to anything. Out of the 14 golf clubs, there are usually 3 putters, but there is no point of carrying all of them. Just pick one that is the most suitable for you, and you will be good to go.

3.    The wedge

This is among the obvious choices when choosing golf clubs to hit the golf course. You can miss a green and need to take an extra shot to get one. That is where a wedge comes in. If you can get close wedge shots, then you are at a better competitive advantage. Even the most elite players need to have a wedge club in their golf bag.

4.    Irons

Irons are essential clubs that have to be included in the golf bag especially for beginner level golfers. Irons are used when driving the golf ball for a distance that is within 200 yards. They are different from the drivers as the drivers are for driving the ball over distances outside the 200-yard range. You can use a hybrid as a substitute for the Irons. A hybrid is somewhere between an Iron and a driver given that it has a wider and thicker head compared to Irons but smaller compared to the driver.

5.    Grip

Your grip on the golf club will determine the quality of your shot. This affects all the clubs from the irons, to the wedges, drivers and putters. As such, you should endeavor to select clubs that have the best grip. This way you can be sure of having command of the golf club thus hitting the golf ball right.

6.    The nature of the golf course

Golf courses vary in nature and difficulty. No golf course is similar to the other. They vary in slope and obstacles. The gentle golf courses will not require you to carry more varied golf clubs. But with the difficult golf courses, the number of golf clubs needed is more. You will need the different golf clubs to handle the various obstacles on the golf course.

7.    Your golfer level

The clubs that matter are also determined by your skills level. As a beginner, the important clubs are few, and they increase as you master the game. For instance, a beginner is still practicing and trying to perfect their swing. As such, they will not need to carry drivers with them since their swing cannot hit balls over long distances yet. Instead, they can practice with irons first until they have good swings.

8.    Comfort

Depending on your stature, choose a golf club that feels comfortable to you. The different golf clubs have different lengths. Therefore, it becomes automatic that the most important clubs are the ones whose lengths you can handle comfortably. The more relaxed you are with your golf clubs and your swing, the better your shots will be.

9.    Confidence

Some golf clubs make you more confident with your swing than others. While this is based on superstition, it is important to carry only the clubs that boost your confidence. Your confidence plays a great role in determining the quality of your shot. The more confident you are, the better your shots will get.

10.    Your style of golf game

Different golf players have different styles of play. Some hit a wider range of shots than others. As such, you can tailor your golf club set according to your style of play. The golf clubs needs of another player at the same level as you may not be the same as your needs.
