What summer camp is really like?  7 Tips for Surviving

Summer camp can be a great place to be for the summer holidays. However, it can also be a stressful time for the youngsters. To survive summer camp, they need to have some tips at the tips of their fingers. That way, their summer camp will be smooth from the beginning to the end. Here as some tips from RunRex.

Give Your Friends and Family Members the Address for the Camp

When your family members and friends have the address for your summer camp, they will be able to write letters to you. That way you can beat some of the homesickness that comes with being at a summer camp. Getting a letter from your friends at home about how they are spending their summer can help you feel like you are part of the fun back home.

If you want to ensure that your family and friends write to you, take an effort to leave them envelopes with blank sheets of paper inside. Ensure the envelopes are stamped and addressed to you. That way, it will not be much of an effort for them to write to you at the camp.

Come with Some Cool Stuff to Camp

One way of ensuring that your summer camp is a lot of fun is to bring some cool things with you. That way, you will stand out as the kid with all the cool stuff. Summer camp is not all about necessity; you can bring some items that will make it easy for you to make friends. For instance, you can bring some playing cards or a board game with you. That way, when you are relaxing with your friends in the cabin, you can play some fun games. It will help you socialize quite quickly. Additionally, you could bring some fun magazines or comics that you share with friends. It will help to establish you like the cool kid who brings cool stuff with them to camp.

Do Not Be Late

The last thing you want to do is to arrive at summer camp a day late. If it is your first time at the camp, you will find that everyone has already made friends. It could cause problems for you as you try to adjust at the camp. You will find that it takes quite a while for you to catch up at camp especially when you do not have any friends to help you. Besides that, some of the kids may pick on you when they sense you are a loner at the camp. Although it may only be slight, it can still dampen your summer camp experience.

Bring all The Gear

When you are accepted to a summer camp, you will usually be sent a list of things you need to bring with you to camp. If you do not have some of the equipment, it may mean that your parents have to ship it in later. However, that would mean that you miss a good deal of the fun. It will also mean that you may be forced to engage in other less enticing activities. All these problems can be avoided if you follow the strict instructions of the things that you are needed to bring with you to the summer camp. Go over the list carefully to ensure that you do not miss anything.

Carry a Few Things that remind You of Home

However, if you bring too much stuff, it could end up making your stay at summer camp stressful. Bring a photo of your parents or your favorite toy with you. Additionally, you can bring your favorite blanket. These few things will help you to feel safe and less alone while at summer camp. They also help to remind you that there are people back home that care about you.

While coming with things from home, ensure that there is space for you to carry things back from summer camp. For instance, an art project you work on or pictures you take at the camp. You may find that you get camp sick at home.

Reach Out to People

As soon as you arrive at camp, reach out to the others. Everyone is a bit shy the first time. Even the most outgoing campers require a bit of a nudge. Take the first step to initiate conversations. With only two months or less of summer camp, it is important that you begin making strong bonds as soon as possible. You only need to smile at people and be friendly to them. If you waste too much time being shy, you may not make enough friends at the end of summer.

Sign Up for Many Activities

Do not restrict yourself to activities that you already like. Sign up to many activities and explore what you like. After the first few days, you will have decided on what you want to do. Even when you do not end up liking the activity that you chose, it could still prove to be an opportunity for you to make some friends.
