Top 25 Texas Golf Courses in 2021

The Lone Star’s State roster of impressive golf courses is quite impressive. Here is a list of some of the fine courses that we at RunRex think you should try out. 

Barton Creek – Fazio Canyons

This Tom Fazio design course, which was opened in 2000, is open only to guests of the Barton Creek Resort & Spa. Its 18th par-5 hole is among the top finishers in the state.

Pine Dunes 

The course is among the hidden gems of the lone star state. The course, which is located a two hours’ drive east of the Dallas area will be worth the trip. If you choose, you can stay in one of the condominiums located near the 18th green. 

Barton Creek – Foothills

Tom Fazio designed the course, which is found at the back of the Barton Creek Resort & Spa, in 1986. One of its unique features is an abandoned bat cave. 

The Rawls at Texas Tech

The course was the first project that Tom Doak embarked on after completion of the Pacific Dunes in Oregon. The course was built on a completely flat piece of land. 

Old American The Colony 

The course, which was created by Justin Leonard and Tripp Davis, has one of the most stylish layouts of any golf course to the north of Dallas. It has an old school feel to it, which is a nod to the classic American courses. 

TPC San Antonio – AT&T Oaks 

It is among the best new courses in the state. The course plays host to a PGA Tour event, a testament to its great quality. 

TPC Four Seasons at Las Colinas Irving

The course, which has played host to the HP Bryson Nelson Championship, has a history spanning more than three decades. It was renovated in 2008 and continues to be a great course. 

Westin La Cantera Hill Country Resort (Palmer Course)

The course has a roller-coaster layout to it, which makes it a fun place to play golf. If you are ever in the Texas Hill Country, consider making a visit to the resort. 

Butterfield Trail 

It is among the best new courses in all of Texas. The course is built on land that was previously part of the mail delivery route. It features some sand dunes, elevated tees, and much more. 

Cowboys Golf Club 

If you are a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, you should visit this golf club. All the bunkers at the course were recently renovated. 

Wolfdancer Golf Club

The course, which was opened in 2006, has varying elevation, parkland-style holes, and even a downhill 12th hole. The two final holes at the course are located close the Colorado River. 

Redstone Golf Club (Tournament Course)

The course has been host to the PGA Shell Houston Open since 2003. David Toms and Rees Jones designed the course. 

Brackenridge 

The course has one of richest histories of all courses in the state. The course was expertly restored in 2008. It was part of the PGA Tour Texas Open from 1922 to 1959. 

Memorial Park Golf Course 

If you are in search of a course that offers you a bargain for your money, you should go here. The course was renovated in 1995 leading to a new putting and chipping area, a range, and a clubhouse. 

Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club  

The layout is simply outstanding. Besides that, this course is home to one of the best holes in Texas. 

Colonial

It is often said that Ben Hogan owes much of his success to playing at the course. The course is so challenging that if you succeed here, you can succeed at any course in the world. 

Black Jack’s Crossing, Lajitas

This remote golf course will be well worth the trip. The course is to be found about seven hours west of San Antonio. It features seven elevated tees with great views of the valleys. 

The Cliffs C.C. at the Possum Kingdom, Graford

Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin designed the course. It has a secluded atmosphere. The course is also quite challenging, requiring you to fly the ball over limestone and cedars at least six times.  

Canyon Springs Golf Club, San Antonio

The course, which was opened in 1998, was once the site of the last stagecoach out of town. The course is located on the historic J.W. Ranch. One of its most impressive holes is the 18th, which is framed by a towering waterfall. 

Horseshoe Bay Resort, Ram Rock Course, Horseshoe Bay

Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the course, and it opened in 1981. Its layout is among the most respected in Texas. 

Texas Star Golf Course, Euless

This strategic course was created by Keith Foster, a renowned golf architect. The golf course was hewn out of 275 acres of rolling terrain that features oaks that are over 100 years. 

Hyatt Hill Country Resort, San Antonio

If you are looking for a place that offers you peace and tranquility and still close to the city, you should visit this course. The course is the work of Arthur Hills. 

Wildcat Golf Club in Houston, Texas

The course is a favorite among golfing pros. One of the most famous courses at this club is the Highlands, which offers a panoramic view of the city. 

Tour 18 in Humble, Texas

The course is unique. It attempts to reproduce the most renowned holes on earth the course. The attention to detail allows you to experience holes that you could only dream of playing. 

Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene, Texas

Charles Coody, the 1971 Masters Champion, built the course. At times, you can get tee times for as low as $1 per hole.
