Top 25 Places in Oklahoma to Go Golfing

Oklahoma is a fine place to go golfing. It has some of the best-maintained courses throughout the country. If you are wondering where exactly you should visit, RunRex has prepared a list of some of the choicest courses to visit. 

1.    Oak Tree Golf Club

The golf club was built with an aim to build one of the finest courses in Oklahoma. Pete Dye was commissioned to complete the project. The course has at one time served as host of the PGA Championship. 

2.    Jimmie Austin/ OU Golf Course

Bob Cupp did the work of redesigning this golf course. The course had some issues when it was first launched in 1951 because of the irrigation system. It was the host of the PGA National Junior Series in 1998 and 2000. 

3.    Chickasaw Pointe

Randy Heckenkemper, known for his visionary designs, designed it. The course is located on hilly terrain with an excellent view of the lake.

4.    Lincoln Park West

U.C. Ferguson played a crucial role in the development of junior programs at this course. The course’s layout was redesigned in 1999. However, changes were minimal. 

5.    Cedar Creek

The course borrows its name from a course in Augusta, Ga. Ken Farley designed the course in 1973. It cuts through tall pines and rolling hills. 

6.    Battle Creek

The first thing you will notice about the course on the driving range is the amazing view of Tulsa. However, do not let the aesthetics fool you. This Bland Pittman designed course is quite tough.

7.    Coffee Creek 

The course is currently one of the best public courses in the state. When it opened, it was so wooden that it was impossible to walk outside the fairways. However, major improvements were later made. 

8.    Bailey Ranch

This par-73 course has grown to be among the best in the state. All the holes at this course are quite dissimilar. The course is named after Larkin Bailey, who donated the land to the city of Owasso. 

9.    Stone Creek

The course was selected at the ‘Best New Public Course’ by a leading golfing publication when it opened in 1987. Every hole is uniquely challenging at this course. 

10.    Forest Ridge Golf Club

Since the course opened in 1989, it has helped to elevate public golfing in the state. At this club, you will get to enjoy some of the perks that are usually found at country clubs. 

11.    Golf Club Of Oklahoma 

The course began as a private course for John Williams and his buddies. Since its opening, it has been the host of major events such as the Ben Hogan Tour events in 1991 and 1992. 

12.    Cedar Ridge

The course has a traditional feel to it. It features narrow landing areas, 89 traps, and 2,900 trees. Besides that, water comes into play on 11 holes. 

13.    Hillcrest 

Perry Maxwell designed the course. It has a course record of 7-under, which is quite unusual for a course that is only 6,516 yards. One of the biggest legend to play golf at the course was Ben Hogan. 

14.    Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club

It is among Perry Maxwell’s finest works. Although it is not very long, it has an amazing course record of 59. 

15.    Tulsa CC

The country club is home to the first private club in the city of Tulsa. It is the second oldest in the state, with a history that goes back all the way to 1904. 

16.    Oak Tree 

The country club is home to a pair of Pete Dye course. It has been the host to numerous collegiate tournaments. For instance, it was the host of the 1989 NCAA Championship.

17.    Dornick Hills 

The course was the first Perry Maxwell course. One of its most unique features is the cliff hole. It is a great course, which offers a challenge to players of all levels. 

18.    Twin Hills 

When a national event is to be held in Oklahoma, Twin Hills is usually the first place they check out. The course was the host of the first major event in the state- the 1935 PGA Championship.

19.    Silverado Golf Course 

If you want to enjoy the Southern Oklahoma golfing experience, you should visit this course. Terry Reynolds designed the course, which was opened in 2001. 

20.    Lawton Municipal Golf Course 

The golf course is one of the finest courses around Lawton city. The course is the fine work of Ben Hogan. It was opened in 1956. 

21.    Earlywine Golf Club

The course is situated only a short drive from El Reno and Moore. It is a great golfing destination in the OKC region. 

22.    Trosper Park Golf Course

The course, which is located a short distance from Yukon, Edmond, or Midwest City is a great place for 18-hole golf. The course, which was opened in 1953, is 6,631 yards in length. 

23.    Blackwell Municipal Golf Course 

This fun course located in Blackwell is well maintained. If you are looking for a challenging public course, you should visit this one. 

24.    Pheasant Run Golf Club 

The course is located in the Panhandle region of the state. This challenging course is found within the city of Enid. It is also home to two of the top 10 par 3 holes in the state. 

25.    Sunset Hills Golf Course

If you are going to be staying around Guymon, you should consider visiting this course. An 18-hole thriller has something to offer everyone.
