He began his career in collegiate golf at the Coastal Carolina University. In his amateur career, he won quite a few awards such as the Northeast Amateur in 2007 and the Monroe Invitational. He turned pro in 2007 and earned a PGA Tour card in 2008. Towards the season, he won the Turning Stone Resort Championship, a PGA Tour event.

His father, who was also his coach, introduced Rory to golf at an early age. Rory’s father took on extra jobs so that he could earn enough money to help his son develop in golf. 

3.    Jason Day 

Jason is an Australian golfer and a member of the PGA Tour. Jason has been world number 1 at some point in his career. Day first broke in the world top ten in 2011. He was born in Queensland. His father was an Australian while his was born in the Philippines but emigrated to Australia. Jason launched his professional career in 2006 after he won the Green Jacket at the NEC Master of the Amateurs. Shortly after, he signed up with Adidas and Taylor Made. 

4.    Hideki Matsuyama

Matsuyama was born on February 25, 1992. He is a Japanese golfer, who won the Asian Amateur Championship in 2010 and 2011. Hideki Matsuyama was born in Ehime, Japan. His father introduced him to golf at the early age of four. He was the first Japanese amateur to compete in 2011 Masters Tournament. In 2011, he also won gold at the World University Games. Besides that, he led the Japanese team to take the gold in the team event. He turned pro in 2013 and won the 2013 Tsuruya Open of the Japan Golf Tour. 

5.    Henrik Olof Stenson

Henrik is a professional Swedish golfer who is a member of the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He is the first major Swedish male champion in golf. Stenson, who was born in Gothenburg, began playing golf at the young age of 12 years. Although he was born left-handed, he learned how to play with his right hand. He turned pro in 1999 and joined the European Tour in 2001. In that year, he got his first European Tour victory at the Benson & Hedges International Open. He debuted in the Ryder Cup in 2006, and holed the winning putt, thus ensuring that Europe won the Ryder Cup. 

6.    Jordan Alexander Spieth 

Jordan is an American golfer. He was at one time ranked as the world number 1. He has won the FedEx Cup twice in his career. Spieth was born in Dallas, Texas. He is the only other amateur golfer to have won the U.S. Junior Amateur other than Tiger Woods. He earned a spot in the US open after Brandt Snedeker withdrew. He turned pro in 2012 and shortly after got into a sponsorship agreement with Under Armour. 

7.    Justin Thomas

Justin is an American golfer who is a member of the PGA Tour. Justin was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He played college golf at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. During his time there, he won the Crimson Tide six times. He turned pro in 2013 and earned a Web.com Tour card. Justin Thomas had his first pro event at Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.

8.    Adam Derek Scott

Adam is an Australian pro golfer who plays most of his golf on the PGA Tour. In 2014, he was the world number 1 golfer for about four months. He has won 29 pro tournaments globally. He was born in Adelaide, South Australia. Scott turned pro in 2000 after some impressive performances on the European tour earlier that year. His career took off in 2001, which was his first full year as a pro. 

9.    Rick Yutaka Fowler

Rick is an American pro golfer who often plays on the PGA Tour. He held the world number 1 position in golf for 37 weeks. Fowler was born in Murrieta, California. He played most of his golf on a driving range and is almost fully self-taught. Rick began his pro career in 2009. Later on, he signed sponsorship deals with Titleist and Rolex. 

10.    Sergio García Fernández

Sergio is a pro golfer from Spain. He plays on the European and PGA Tours. Sergio has won more than 20 international tournaments. He has been in the world top 20 for most of his career. He turned pro after having the lowest score for an amateur at the 1999 Masters Tournament.
