The Best Summer Ski Resorts in the United States

Even in summer, the high altitude ski resorts still have snow. The result is that you can extend your ski holiday well into the summer. Here are a few summer ski resorts that RunRex recommends. 

1.    Timberline Lodge, Oregon

If you have ever wanted to ski down a volcano, this mountain resort is perfect for you. The resort is located to the south of Mont Hood, which is highest in Oregon. The ski resort is the only one is North America that operates all year round in a ski area. However, if you want perfect summer conditions, you should visit the resort starting in June or July. This ski resort is also a national historic landmark and was featured in the movie, ‘The Shining.’ During the peak summer months, you can get up early to go skiing. You can then spend the rest of your day biking or hiking along the trails. 

2.    Mammoth Mountain, California

If you would like to have some fun skiing in the summer, it is the place to be. The resort offers some great early summer and late spring terrain for skiing. If you are seeking for an invigorating skiing experience between 7,953 feet and 11,053 feet, you will find it here. Although the outer edges are shut down as the summer progresses, the heart of the mountain remains opens to skiing enthusiasts. 

3.    Mount Bachelor, Oregon

The resort experiences such nice snowfall during summer that it always has ticket sales during this season. Although the resort only operates about three lifts during the summer from the nearly 13 during winter, there is still much to do at this resort.  If you want a breathtaking view, you will find one at the summit. Most skiers to the top of this mountain also pack a light lunch. They use their time there to marvel at the Cascade Range and take in the warm sun and pure mountain air. 

4.    Arapahoe Basin, Colorado

This snowy 13,050-foot mountain is the perfect place for summer skiing. It has come to be known as ‘The Legend’ by those who frequently visit this mountaintop. Although this basin is at 13,050 feet above sea level, scenes here will remind you of the beaches of California. If you are looking to do some skiing in summer and have some fun, visit this resort. 

5.    Vail Ski Resort, Colorado

The ski resort is found in Eagle County, Colorado. The resort is the third largest single mountain ski resort in America; it occupies 2,140 ha. The resort opened in 1963, and it features seven bowls. The resort is accommodative to both families and beginners. One way to enjoy yourself, wake up early and head to Blue Sky Basin, then work your way towards the west. Although conditions are not as great as they are in the summer, you can still do a bit of skiing. 

6.    Breckenridge Ski Resort

The resort is located in Breckenridge, Colorado. It is found just west of Continental Divide, Summit County. It is among the most visited resorts in the western hemisphere. Vail Resorts operate it; it is a leading resort operator in the world. The town center close to this resort is quite lively during the weekends. There are more than 1000 restaurants, all with unique dishes. Although not much skiing goes on in the summer, you can still visit for the scenery and a few slopes that may be operational. 

7.    Copper Mountain, Colorado

Summer at Copper Mountain is great for enjoying the warm summer breeze. The Mountain operates an all-year ski training area. Besides skiing, there are many other fun activities to it in which one can engage in. For instance, visitors can play mini golf. If you have always desired to learn skiing, come to its training camp known as Woodward. By the next winter season, you will be a good skier, and you can impress friends and family. 

8.    Telluride Ski Resort

The resort is located in Mountain Village, Colorado. It is just a few meters from the town of Telluride. It is located in the southern San Juan Mountains, which are part of the Rocky Mountains. The resort has about 2,000 skiable acres. The town had begun as mining camp before it evolved into the flourishing resort town it is today. The resort is great for beginners, more than half of its runs are suited for beginners and intermediate skiers. 

9.    Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico

The resort has recently undergone a major overhaul. Although not much skiing is possible in the summer, there are still many awesome things to do this resort. You can use your stay at this resort to explore the beautiful surroundings. The food served during your stay here is excellent. 

10.    Stowe, Vermont 

The resort is a magnet for summer festivals. One of the most famous is the Wine & Food Classic that takes place June 12 to 14. There is also a multisport event, which you can participate. The sport even draws about 1,000 hikers each year. At the top of the mountain, you will find great music and barbecue. If you book early, you could get some great discounts.
